My First Impressions of the McLaren Mercedes MP-28

First of, I’m in now way an F1 expert. I love the sport and often watch the first two practice sessions, qualifying and the race including the SkySports F1 HD’s F1 Sow (mouthful, right?) And there’s not much point in watching practice three when half hour or so later you have qualifying, but that doesn’t mean I know a lot and these are just my uneducated opinions.

So, my first impressions, same as last year? Minus a colour tweak and some minor aero difference you can’t see much changes; and I guess you can’t make too many changes as the FIA haven’t really changed a whole lot of rules for the 2013 season, 2014 is a different story..

I know there’s going to be a heap of changes “under the hood” and I know it’s lighter as per the FIA rules allowing it due to heavier wheels and the new engines for next year. We all know after a few races we start to see new aero packages and upgrades to the cars, but ‘til then, it looks pretty much the same as the car at the end of the 2012 season, lets’ just hope it’s more reliable!

Red Bull Racing’s F1 Car Sings the National Anthem Better than You

Anyone who’s ever been to a sporting event knows how easy it is for someone to completely butcher our national anthem. But Red Bull Racing’s F1 car does pretty much the exact opposite of that. The F1 team is demoing the high-revving vehicle around NYC this week, and it sounds like it has quite the set of pipes on it. What could be more patriotic than a car vroom vrooming “Oh say can you see”? Throw a bald eagle and some Bud Light tallboys in there, and you’ve got yourself the most patriotic moment since Washington crossed the Delaware.

De Villota leaves hospital as recovery continues

Injured Marussia test driver Maria de Villota has been discharged from Madrid’s La Paz University Hospital to continue her recovery at home.

De Villota, who was transferred from the UK to her native Spain less than week ago, sustained serious head and facial injuries in a testing accident at Duxford Airfield earlier this month.

“The patient’s general conditions are good, which allowed us to release her,” explained a statement on De Villota’s website. “In the last six days, she has been treated by specialists of the plastic and neurological surgery services, and the ophthalmology department, who will continue to follow her, as she will need to undergo periodical checks and treatments.

“From a neurological point of view, the patient does not present any deficit and does not need any surgery. The specialists have made no special remarks but will continue to follow her in the forthcoming period of time.

“As a consequence of the serious trauma suffered, she will be closely followed by the ophthalmology service,” concluded the statement. “The specialists of the plastic surgery service will be responsible for following the serious injuries to her face and correcting the effects of those.”

De Villota had just completed an initial installation lap on her first Formula One test with Marussia when she collided a team support truck.
